Why Don't the Amish Have Autistic Children?

Autism

Autism is a difficult disorder to miss, as it is characterized by noticeably abnormal or impaired development in social interaction and communication and a markedly restricted array of activities and interests. And while scientific consensus claims autism has been around for millennia at generally the same prevalence, that prevalence is now considered to be one in every 166 children born in the United States.

Therefore, with this devastating statistic in mind, one reporter set out to analyze the autism rates among Amish communities. Why? Because perhaps searching for autistic Amish children would reveal clues to the cause of autism ... and it did.

The Clues Come Together

Since they have been cut off for hundreds of years from American culture and scientific progress, the Amish may have had less exposure to some new factor triggering autism in the rest of population. The likely culprit: vaccines.

Traveling to the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country in search of autistic Amish children, the reporter, based on national statistics, should have found as many as 200 children with autism in the community -- instead, he found only three, the oldest age 9 or 10:

*

The first autistic Amish child was a girl who had been brought over from China, adopted by one family only to be given up after becoming overwhelmed by her autism, and then re-adopted by an Amish Mennonite family. (China, India and Indonesia are among countries moving fast to mass-vaccination programs.)
*

The second autistic Amish child definitely had received a vaccination and developed autism shortly thereafter.
*

The reporter was unable to determine the vaccination status of the third child.

Dangerous Effects of Thimerosal

In some vaccines, they use a mercury-based preservative called thimerosal that keeps multiple-dose vials from becoming contaminated by repeated needle sticks. After health officials became concerned about the amount of mercury infants and children were receiving through thimerosal-tainted vaccines, the toxin was phased out of U.S. vaccines starting in 1999.

However, due to mislabeling and other problems, its presence is still being felt, and more and more children are suffering because of it.

Lately...

I don't have much to post...
Hence the random pics I've took recently.
I have been working. In between having some fun.
Had a bon fire and fireworks on Wednesday with a bunch of friends.
OH, I will have to post some pics of Mal's wedding a couple weeks ago!
That was fun. And so beautiful. It made me cry.
um, what else?
Right now Erika is sleeping on my floor.
I'm tempted to use my cow call and wake her up... :P
I have to work at noon today.
Sooo, yeah.
AH SHE LIVES!
Alrighty, have to go,
peace,
Chey.

Mi Padres Day***

Happy Father's day! I hope everyone remembered.
This morning we gave Dad our presents for him, then we went to church. After church we tripped down to camp Forest Springs. So, Gab and Jo are at camp right now. Gab's first year, so we'll see how she does. I love CFS, being there gave me camp sickness. I wanted to stay. haha. I know that place up and down. I miss working there. I did see quite a few people I knew from 06, and it was neat to see them again. Saw some old friends whose kid's were attending there as well this week. The Guthries, Fetzers, etc. The sun stayed out for most of the day, it only started raining on the way back home when we hit Ladysmith. We stopped to eat at a pizza place in LS called pizza's of Eight. Ahahaha! I thought that was amazing. (You know, pieces of eight, the Spanish pirate coin?)But anyways, I went shopping in Eau Claire on Saturday and bought a dress for a friends wedding. I like it. Hence the buying it. :/ Have I mentioned I love TJ Max? Because I do. There is no other place you can get those brands at that price. Even though I still feel bad spending money on clothes I don't "need". is that normal? :P
Well yes,
Have a lovely afternoon. Erm, night. I think I'm am going to go exercise.
much Love and peace to your heart.

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

I thought you all might like a nice little recap of my week/end.
Ahem.
So, on Friday we had a picnic! We meaning, Rika, Missy, Tiffany, Bethany and Larissa and myself.
It was fun.

You want to know the highlight of it?! I threw a piece of my bread in the river and my ring flew off with it! I heard a clink and told the girls what happened, then next thing I know Erika was in the river! lol. She jumped in to get my ring, awww, I love that friend! She saved the day. And my ring!

So, Saturday. Erika, rach and I had a garage sale! yay. :D After lunch it was Sooooo sloooow. And we had quite an adventure putting up signs. So at 2 we got tired and took our 50 bucks. then we 3 went out for Gellato at The Olala cafe'. It was much fun. Even if Erika did throw away my special spoon. :( Gosh, it only landed on you ONCE. :D (pictures soon) I got sunburn that day.

Then I went over to the Meyer's with the family and had a cook out. And a huge fire, like crazy big.
Oh oh oh!
So, good story. haha.
Mi Madre y senora Meyer went to pick up our new Koi fish for our pond (I got to name one! Polly Thomsen ). So, they get there and the lady was quite the fun character. I think I should direct a movie and use her as a character. :) Carrie and my Mom could barely lift one of the two buckets of fish together and as they're struggling to get to the van with their bucket the lady picks up the other bucket like it was nothing! my Mom and Carrie stopped to rest and this lady is just standing there holding the huge heavy bucket waiting for them to move. :0
My Mom and Mrs. Meyer said something like wow, you must have the biceps. And the lady says, yeah, you don't wanna mess with my biceps. And she pulls her shirt sleeves up and flexes. My Mom said those were bigger than any man muscles she has ever seen! LOL. The lady said she used to be a body builder. :/
Oh, did I mention she had pink hair?
I thought that was amazing. A huge body builder lady with pink hair (who also if into witchcraft, considering all of the signs and crystals everywhere). what a colorful woman! I wish I was there and not just relaying what they said.
Anyways, yes. Fun fun.

Then comes Sunday: stormy.
I was going to drive out to camp to see Naomi, Bryce and Jonathan, but I didn't want to get stuck out there with the possible tornadoes and all. Sad day. (also, I have been saying sad day for a very LONG TIME, Erika. People can vouch for me!)

Today:
Naomi and I were going to go to Lacrosse for Teresa's party, but poor Naomi got sick! Another time we will come see you, Teresa! I promise. I hope you're feeling better Naomi. :D
Did a ton of yard work, I mowed the lawn. The gardens are looking pretty. :)
I like out fish. Even the monster deformity one. (He got hit by lighting. Or did he??? Dun dun dun...)
Then wyn and I took the babies on a grocery shopping adventure. Except everyone thought the twins were mine. Awkward...
Whatever. I talked to the nicest but slowest cashier lady ever. And I bought a t-short with a whale on it. It's funny. I made scones-ish.
That's all.
have a happy day.

This is the reason it is my favorite...

Umm, hello? Can you say "adorable"? Gahlly, I love that place! If I had money I would buy my little sisters an entire wardrobe for oilily!
I love it.

Because we love them...

So, tonight Rachel and I went to a Creative Writing workshop at the Library. And we felt like geeks. :P It was actually quite fun, but most of the people there were 40 years our senior. lol. well, there was one like 20 whatever year old dude. But it was funny. I got some short dialogs written down and creative ideas flowing, so it was worth it.
Okay, before that in town I stopped by the Christian bookstore to buy my ticket for the Chippewa Falls music fest. While there I got 3 cd's for 5 dollars! Is that not amazingly cool? Yeah, I thought so. Because they are relocating and stuff, so they are trying to get rid of a lot. I bought 2 Shawn McDonald cd's and a Run Kid Run cd. I was happy. :) Then I went to wallmart and bought milk and paint. Definition of a good night, buying music and paint. I even got to talk to the lady fixing the swimsuit racks. That all plus driving = Happy.
I like driving. Most people said I would get tired of it after the first couple months and hate running errands, but it hasn't happened yet. And it has been 5 months since my license. not to mention having a temps for like ever. Anyways, this is all irrelevant. But okay. I feel like doing something with my mind now.
Peace and love.

Your mind has been confusing, baby!
I just don't know what's going on...
blah blah blah. I don't know the rest of this song.

But yes, not much.

OH, I got a package in the mail today. :) From the contest I won.
Yay. Free stuff is always good.
So, feel free to come over and scrap now. :D

Who sits next you in science?
My pillow...

What was the last song you listened to?
Uh, Love Addict?

Who does it remind you of?
Haha. I would say, but then I would have to explain.

Last movie you watched?
Time Machine, because I am reading the H G Wells book of the same name.

What CD is in your stereo?
Um, a biology CD, "Chey's Mix" CD and a CD about Genetically Modified foods. I know... Just your typical teenager.

Do you have a job?
No. Maybe I shouldn't have quit quite yet, I could really use the money. :P

Do you wear contacts or glasses?
Nope.

Do you trust your friends?
Most of them.

Who was the last person to call you?
My Mom last night. Good story, I decided not to go to my yg last night and went with Rach and Rika instead and my Mom didn't know that. So she was calling all of my friends at the soul garage asking where I was. Haha. It all worked out.

Do you believe that everything happens for a reason?
Yes,

Look out the window.

OKaay... I like my flower. :)

Last time you went to the mall?
Um. Like 3 weeks ago.

What kind of music do you like?
I am a very diverse genre king of girl. Mainstream poppy pop pop rock makes me sick. So does syrupy country music. And I don't do metal. Punk, Rock, Crunk, oldies, the not so classical classical, Celtic... :/ Hip hop, but I think Gospel takes all. maybe. Soundtracks are awesome. Wait, that depends. This question shouldn't be so intense, on to the next one...

What was the last thing you drank?
Water. The basis of life. Gotta love it.

Ever snuck outta the house?
Yes, but not bad.

Last book you read?
Currently I'm reading The Time Machine by H G Wells(school), and the Great physicians RX for health by Jordan Rubin.

Are you scared of spiders?
No. But sometimes yes, it depends on how vulnerable my situation is. Usually I can just kill them and not blink. But if you are dangling one above my head, that is another story...

What do you think of squirrels?
There are two kinds, evil and innocent. You never know who is who, never trust a squirrel.

Is there someone who wants to date you?
don't ask me.

Have you ever crawled through a window?
Many many times. I've even crawled through Erika's window. :P

Who knows a secret or two about you?
A few people.

Can you handle the truth?
Can I or do I want to? The truth will set you free, although sometimes it sucks.

Are you too forgiving?
No.

Have you ever wanted to be a teacher?
Uh, No.

Who was the last person you cried in front of?
Erika.

If you could pick one person to disappear from the planet, who would it be?
Me.

All is lost, to prayers, to prayers!

Ahh yes, the Tempest. Classic.
I find that intriguing that even the "heathen" sailors back in the day would cry that out when the storm hits. That is what we should be doing, man. One more reason why I should be a pirate for a week... don't worry I won't pilage anything and kill. Eesh. Although, I can only imagine the fun of boarding the Disney cruise ship... *imagines Mickey Mouse walking the plank* Haha! Hey, that seems like a just desert for brainwashing our children and stealing away our money. Or maybe not. It is our own free will after all. Mmhmm. Anyways, my ramblings for the night. :D I am going to go watch Enchanted. Looks pretty funny.
I wish you all Peace and campfires. :)
I'm sorry, I've fallen off the deep end quite officially now...
tell me to shut up for once.

Well, I know I'm gonna be.

AHHHHHHHH!!!! I woke up to a terrible sight today. It is currently 7:30 AM and the world is white. Quite white. *sniffles* I thought Spring was here to stay... primavera come back to me! It looks like Narnia, seriously. If I weren't so upset I would make a epic video about it. Maybe I still will...
Anyways. Nicette is coming today! :D So that is exciting. The house is nearly done. I think we are all quite burnt out with house stuff. I've decided painting walls is evil. For now. The carpet guy is coming. I shuold take a shower before he gets here... hmmm. Last night I was up trying to write. I sat for an hour and I got 3 sentences out. Oh well, there were very nice little sentences. :P I was just too tired to think. Usually late at night is best for me to write because I don't really have to think about it, it just comes. But when you are toooo tired, it becomes nothing more than gibbereish on the page. Interesting. Haha.
Erika spent the night the other day (if that makes sense that she spent the NIGHT the other DAY...???W/E)and we took a bunch of fun pictures. Naturally.

Alice in PC land...

I feel as though my world is being turned upsidedown... or sideways at least. no, seriously! My screen is sideways and I have no idea how to get it back to normal. I've tried everything I can think of. Sad news... because my neck is really starting to hurt. I've been fighting off a cold or something, I think it's going pretty well though. I just keep taking herbs and water, and it seems to be going away. hurrah. There is about 15 strange people in my house right now. I don'y know who they are, I've just excepted the fact that when you're remodeling strange people will walk in at anytime.
I've also decided out contractors are cool. Haha. Chuck just bought me a bag of chocolate on his lunch break. Because I am a "nice girl" apparently. All because I got him a band aid. sheesh!
I didn't have to babysit for Debbie today. a welcome break. :) her sister is here, so she's going to be taking care of the boys. plus, I didn't want to get her kids sick. Although I'm sure they have gotten me sick most f the times I have been sick in the past year. but yes, I wish the sunshine would come back. I am craving a soleado day! Anyways, that has been my day. kind of blah and chaotic with some funny highlights. Tomorow I will be off to Eau claire with Rika to buy some fabric. Hmm, I'm looking forward to see the dress she will be making. Anywho.
Life is wierd.
keep on.

I always color the sky blue...

I'm feeling better today. Just a little woozy still, but I think my diet has helped me get over sickness much quicker than I ever have before. There doesn't go a day where I don't praise God that He's taught me so much about health. Except for those days when I really crave a doughnut... :P Ugh. Thinking about that right now makes me want to gag though. Last night I decided to slap myself in the face. I think that's what made me better today too. Half of your health is emotional. I decided to praise God last night even though I felt like dieing. And I still felt like dieing, but it was well with my soul. Satan can attack my body as much as he wants, but he will never get my soul. :) It's kind of neat to rub that in his face... :P

Saturday, February 2, 2008

I can't think...

ugh. Yes. I am sick. I feel like my head weighs 1,000 lbs and nothing at the same time. How that works, I have no idea. Ask your Mom. Last night I came down with a fever, so I slept wierd. been trying to fight this off. I think it's working too. my diet consists of probiotics, water and raw milk. it's making me get better quicker. :)

I've had a crappy week. But I don't want to get into that.

Then a couple minutes ago I realized that The Battle of the bands in rhinelander is tonight, and I won't be there. :( Last year was a lot of fun, but that's the way life goes sometimes.

But worry not, dear ones. The sun is always behind the clouds. :) stupid clouds...

I wish it were spring. Spring sounds lovely.

Pray for me. I just want peace... Jesus gives peace, no? I think so... That's why I'm running to him, even though I feel too sick too run. So it might take me awhile... I hope there are no pits in the way. :0 that would be a royal pain...

mmm. but truly. Jesus is still good when the days are bad. That's what never changes and what keeps me running. He is good. All the time. no?

When you read this please smile for me. It hurts too much for me to smile. thanks. :)

If my head pops off, I might need your hlp finding it again. :P So keep your eyes peeled if you hear an explosion come from midwest Wisconsin.

~Chey.

Notice the 2008-ness

Happy New Year!

It is now the year 2008. Can you believe it? usually the end of a year is bittersweet, but this one feels pretty darn good. So i'm not too upset about it. God has plans. Who am I to stand in the way because I don't want time to fly?
To all of my friends, I love you dearly. Thanks for hanging on for another year with me.
Resolutions you ask?
Nope.
I only need one thought to get me through this year. Pursue God. Everything else will come out of that, right?
Anyways, it sounded good to me.
